1000 Miglia - Straight for the finish line! (day 4)

2018-05-20 1000 Miglia - Straight for the finish line! (day 4)

Mille Miglia 2018 has gone down in history. After four days of struggle and a thousand miles, contestants have returned to Brescia to cross the longed-for finish line. The great fete and thousands of spectators have gathered along Viale Venezia, where the formal closing ceremony is held.

In the morning, contestants head off from Parma into the last, four stages. The prestige of the Race of a Thousand Miles is demonstrated by the fact that the route led through the middle of Mediolanum and the control point, where judges put stamps on the participants’ cards, was located right under the very Cathedral of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Even though the arrival of legendary cars has somewhat paralyzed town, residents welcomed the passing cars with applause. Most of the Saturday regularity sections took place on the fragment of the legendary Formula 1 racetrack - Monza.

This year’s ninety-one edition of Mille Miglia 2018 was won by Juan Tonconogy in an Alfa Romeo 6C 1500 GS from 1933. Second place was taken by Giovanni Moceri, in an Alfa Romeo 1500 S from 1928. Both drivers fought a heavy battle for the win in their cars. Last year’s winner of Mille Miglia - Andrea Vesco - was the lead after the third stage, but in the end, he did not replicate his success and finished third.

The Perlage Team is celebrating its success. According to plan, they’ve made it around the hundredth place amongst the 450 cars that have participated in Mille Miglia 2018. The joy is even bigger because the plan turned out to be harder and more demanding than expected, as the sports level in relation to last year has significantly improved.
