Preparations for this year’s Mille Miglia race have just entered their final phase. Competitors are polishing up their skills and making the last final touches in their incredible machines, which will stroll out into the Italian roads in just 3 days.
One part of this legendary rally will be the incredible vintage machines, the second, equally important, the people who will sit behind their wheels. The starting list of “The Red Arrow” more and more often features famous names.
One of the rally stars of 2014 was Jeremy Irons, who took part as a crew member of Jaguar Heritage Racing. The prominent actor drove a Jaguar XK 120 from 1950. Unfortunately, he didn’t manage to drive the entire 1000 miles – due to technical reasons, he had to withdraw from the competition after the second stage.
Another famous actor who took part in Mille Miglia 2014 was Adrien Brody, who drove the Brescia-Rome-Brescia route in a Mercedes-Benz 300 SL W 198 from 1956.
In 2014, “one of the most beautiful rallies in the world” hosted Jay Leno, who, like Jeremy Irons, beefed up the crew ranks in a Jaguar Heritage Racing. The former anchor of The Tonight Show, like Irons, raced in a Jaguar XK 120 Sports, only his car was way back from 1951.
A fan of Mille Miglia is also Rowan Atkinson, who partook in the race in 2011. The actor himself owns a generous collection of antique cars. He drove a BMW 328 from 1939 in the 1000-mile race.
During this one of a kind May weekend, you can meet the greatest of this world on the Brescia – Rimini – Rome – Parma – Brescia route. Apart from those who have already been mentioned, Mille Miglia has also hosted Brian Johnson from AC/DC, Paloma Picasso, Salvatore Ferragamo, Bruno Senna, Amy Macdonald, Andy Wallace, Mika Hakkinen and many more. Who will show up on Piazza Vittoria this year? We’ll find out in just 3 days.
